“Wow. You look amazing, Shana.”

“Thank you, Quinlan.”

He’d just arrived for our date. Brother looked good in his dress pants and white polo. We would be going to the movies to see What Men Want, then going to get something to eat afterward. Red had called all day, and he kept his promise of calling at five-thirty. He even went as far as trying to get me to have phone sex with him. I swore, that nigga was so petty and jealous.

“You ready to go?”

“Yeah.”

Once we got in his Camaro, I immediately kept it real with him. I didn’t want to wait until the date was over, nor did I wanna give him false hope about our situation. “My boyfriend and I talked yesterday. We’ve decided to work things out.”

He frowned slightly. “So, why did you keep our date?”

“I didn’t want to flake on you. You were so nice to me and helped take my mind off my heartbreak. I appreciate that.”

He nodded but didn’t say much of anything else the rest of the ride to the movies. It wasn’t like I didn’t tell him that it was possible Red and I would repair what we had. He came around and opened my door. Once I’d gotten out, he grabbed my hand. “I’m sorry. I was just hoping that y’all didn’t work it out. I wanted to shoot my shot.”

“It’s cool. You don’t have to apologize.”

He kissed my hand, then we headed inside. When we got to the ticket booth, I took out some cash, and he looked offended. “Yo, what’chu doing?”

“I feel bad about upsetting you, so to make it up to you, I was gonna pay.”

“Girl, if you don’t put that money up. I got it.”

I smiled at him as he paid for our tickets. Quin immediately grabbed my hand again as I felt my phone vibrate in my clutch. I knew it was Red. He didn’t have shit to worry about though. I was coming home to daddy as soon as this date was over.
